Admissions Webinar for Juniors

Dropping in to share an exciting two-part webinar series for juniors tackling the college application process this year.

Junior Night Part 1: Behind the Scenes of an Admission Office
April 13, 4-5pm PT (7-8pm ET)
Special Guest: Tom Campbell, Assistant Dean Of Admissions at Pomona College
In the session, we’ll cover:

• What happens after you hit submit through when you receive your decision?
• How did the Test-Optional policy impact admission decisions this year—and how are colleges like Pomona able to create a class without standardized tests?
• How was application reading different from past years?
• Essays: What do you look for in a great personal statement? How much do essays matter? Can they ever hurt your chances?
• Demonstrated interest: How does it really work? What does Pomona track? What do other schools track?
• Q&A: Submit questions in advance on this form. We'll select a few to answer live.

Junior Night Part 2: What Should I Be Doing Right Now to Prepare for College?
April 20th, 4-5pm PT (7-8pm ET)
Special Guest: Susan Tree, College Counselor & Former Associate Dean of Admissions
In this session, we’ll cover:
• What has changed in the college admission world since the pandemic started—and what hasn’t
• Why students should stop thinking of the admissions process as a contest of grades and scores (and what to do instead)
• Why good students sometimes aren’t accepted at their “likely” schools
• How (and where) to address pandemic experiences in the application
• How students can stand out—in a good way—despite limited extracurricular activity involvement
• What juniors can be doing right now: a tangible set of action items
• Q&A: Submit questions in advance in the form. We'll select a few to answer live.

When registering for the webinar, be sure to select "Register to all dates below."
Can't make the live session? Register anyway. We'll send recordings out after the event.
Feel free to spread the word.

Senior Grad Night Information

Good afternoon Senior Families

Due to the COVID pandemic, we have not been able to provide all of the traditional senior activities we have had in the past, and I wanted to let you know the high school principals and our district have been working diligently behind the scenes with Busch Gardens to provide our seniors with a special private after-hours event that follows our school board policies, and is in line with current CDC guidelines such as social distancing, wearing masks with temperature screenings and hand sanitizer stations.

As a result, we are excited to announce that we will have a Pinellas County Schools Grad Nite for seniors at Busch Gardens on May 7th from 7 pm to midnight. Our seniors will have access to top-rated coasters during an exclusive, after-hours private event in an electrifying outdoor environment, including music, live entertainment and much more! From the exhilarating launches of Tigris and Cheetah Hunt to the dramatic drops of Falcon’s Fury and SheiKra, this physically distant party packs endless thrills for our graduates. This spacious, open-air event offers a one-of-a-kind opportunity for Pinellas County Seniors to celebrate safely with enhanced health and safety measures throughout the park.

The Grad Nite fee is $89.00, and it includes your entrance to the park, a meal voucher and transportation. Tickets will be on sale beginning this coming Monday - April 5 through April 23, 2021 at 2:00 PM, and there will be no refunds. You may use either pcsb.revtrack.net or you may be pay by check or cash with Ms. Shields - our senior class sponsor. You will be provided with a student guide explaining all the details, and you will be expected to follow the outlined COVID measures, along with all Pinellas County School's rules and policies.

Attached is the Student Guide and Permission Slip for the event. You can find additional information on our website. Again, we are excited about this opportunity, and we hope you can attend!

If you have any questions, reach out to Ms. Shields via email. Thanks so much and have a great day!
