The last day to purchase the IB Cookbook is on December 1st

<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>

Hi IB Parents,

The IB Cookbook is available for purchase! With over 30 recipes donated from families throughout the IB program, the book contains recipes from many different cultures. Aside from printing costs (which are included in any pricing), all profits will be donated to the Daystar Life Center. They provide services to those in need in our community. Many of their clients are in need of help, living below the federal poverty level. This fundraiser's goal is to help Daystar give a little more to our own community. To purchase the book, use the order form link in this message. There are three different varieties available: PDF file (emailed mid-December) for $8, a physical paperback copy (pick up mid-December) for $15, and a bundle option with both for $20. If you have any questions contact me at ibcookbook2020@gmail.com.

Friendly Reminder to pick up merchandise

This is just a friendly reminder for those who donated money in excess of $50. We have given everyone a merchandise "gift" for donating above the recommended amount and this is our way of thanking you. We have 22 families who have not picked up their items and they are waiting to be retrieved from Ms. Laggner's office. If you have already picked up your items, please disregard this message.

Message from PCS, School Health Services

Dear Pinellas County Schools students, families, and staff,

We know this year has been unique, and everyone is ready to enjoy their Thanksgiving break with family and friends.

Pinellas County residents had been doing a great job slowing the spread of COVID-19 in our community, and our positivity rate had been under 5% for much of the summer and early fall. However, over the last few weeks, we have seen case counts and positivity rates rise both locally and around the country.

We know that COVID fatigue is real, but we ask you to continue to take steps to keep your family and community healthy throughout the Thanksgiving break.

  • Please continue to practice social distancing.
  • Avoid congregating in large groups, even with family and friends who are not a part of your daily contact group.
  • Plan outdoor activities.
  • Use face coverings and keep hand sanitizer handy for you and your family.
  • And if you or someone in your household feels ill, please stay home.

As a reminder, COVID-19 symptoms include fever, new or persistent cough, loss of taste or smell, headache, sore throat, fatigue or stomach issues.

We sincerely appreciate your continued diligence when it comes to the health of our students and staff.  What happens in our community, happens in our schools, and we need everyone to do their part so we can keep our schools open and operating.

If we all take the proper precautions, we will have a healthy holiday season and continue to have a successful school year.

Thank you.

Sara O'Toole, R.N.

Our Student Government Association presents a virtual scavenger hunt this week.  Scholars, online and face-2-face, have equal footing for this adventure.  Stay tuned for daily clues in Canvas and the morning announcements.

Pre-purchase of the 20.21 LHS Yearbook for only $85, for a limited time. To purchase with cash or check, visit room 2-200 before or after school. To purchase with a credit or debit card, visit www.ybpay.com and use the code 13268421.

The Largo High School Instrumental Music Program’s Annual Wreath Sale runs until this Thursday. We partner with Santa’s Wreath Company to provide quality fresh wreaths direct from the north woods of Wisconsin.  Please visit www.LHSBandofGold.org for more details and to order.  Wreaths will be delivered to us the 2nd week of December.

On Wednesday, we have girls’ basketball starting at 6:15 home against Seminole. Tuesday and Thursday nights are boys basketball tournament play with games at 6 and 8 pm.  We also have soccer at home on Thursday and an away playoff game for Football.

As always, thank you for taking the time to listen. We are on a mission. The mission is graduation. Don’t forget the mission.

The Bank of America Charitable Foundation application for the 2021 Student Leaders® program

Leadership/paid internship opportunity for current Juniors – this is a VERY competitive program and if a student qualifies it would be an amazing resume booster!

-Ms. Wolfe

The Bank of America Charitable Foundation is now accepting applications for the 2021 Student Leaders® program. We will be selecting four local high school students to represent Tampa Bay in 2021. In light of your role at a local high school, we would like your help spreading the word. Please identify students that would be a good fit for the program and encourage them to apply.
About the Student Leaders Program:
Since 2005 the Bank of America Student Leaders Program has recognized more than 3,000 exemplary high school juniors and seniors who have a passion for improving their communities. The program helps students gain a greater understanding of how nonprofits create impact in the community and helps develop them as the next generation of community leaders through two components:
A summer eight-week paid internship with a nonprofit organization selected by the bank. This internship is designed to provide opportunities for the students to develop and apply leadership skills through hands-on work experience, while raising their awareness of community issues addressed by their Host Organization.
A week-long, all-expense paid Student Leaders Summit in Washington, D.C. from July 12-17, 2021. Conducted in partnership with the Close Up Foundation, the Summit introduces students to aspects of civic, social and business leadership and provides them with knowledge and skills they will use throughout their life to create positive community change.
(The in-person internship and summit will be in line with local and national guidelines around gatherings and travel and may be subject to change.)
How to apply:
Students can apply for the program by going to www.bankofamerica.com/studentleaders. Please note the application deadline is January 29, 2021. There will be no deadline extensions.
For more information on the Bank of America Charitable Foundation, please visit www.bankofamerica.com/foundation or feel free to contact me.

 Dear Largo IB Families,

Hello, my name is Arni Kumar and I am a junior in IB. I was hoping to inform and promote my CAS project that Megan Mcarthy and I are doing. We are selling bracelets for $5 made in Nicaragua and Guatemala to support artisan families and fair trade. For in-person students, we will be selling these bracelets during lunch on Monday and Wednesday, and for online students, I have attached a flyer with a QR code for them to choose one of three days to pick up the bracelets after school. I have attached a flyer to provide more information. I spoke to Mr.Liem and he suggested reaching out to you to help Megan and me to promote it.

Thank you

-Arni
