Managing parent stress the topic of next Parent-Guardian Connection on PCSB

Managing parent stress the topic of next Parent-Guardian Connection

Sept. 18, 2020

The Office of Strategic Partnerships will hold a Parent-Guardian Connection session at 5:30 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 6.

The Zoom session is titled Managing Parental Stress.

The COVID-19 pandemic is a stressful time for parents and caregivers and it is easy to become overwhelmed. During this time, there can be uncertainty, to include job loss, decreased social interactions, working from home, teaching children and managing their concerns. Even families who were initially coping well are starting to struggle as the changes in routines are lasting much longer than originally expected.

The good news is that we are all in this together. There are specific tools and techniques that can be used to gain better control of our thoughts and emotions and to help our children cope.

The Parent-Guardian Connection provides a virtual forum where we can all connect. The Parent-Guardian Connection provides you the opportunity to fellowship with parents and guardians across Pinellas County. Participants can share resources, engage and connect.

For more information, go to www.pcsb.org/parentadvocacy or contact: Keosha Simmons, Parent Advocate-Pinellas County Schools, simmonskeo@pcsb.org

Ticket Purchases for Athletics

Good afternoon Largo High Family. This is assistant principal Jonathan Marina. Welcome to a special update on ticket purchases for our athletic competitions.

This year our athletic games will no longer be selling paper tickets. You will only be able to buy your tickets online at GoFan.co. Tickets will not be sold at the gate, and we are limited to 25% of our normal capacity.
As a result, we will be limiting the number of tickets that someone can buy to 2-4 tickets per person. Parents of the athletes receive the link to the games first. After 24 hours, I release the game to the general public.
Once you purchase your ticket, you will receive an email message with your ticket- hold on to that until the day of the game. Once you get up to the gate, bring the ticket(s) up, validate them in front of the ticket taker, and that will get you into the game. Do not take a screenshot of your ticket. We will not accept screenshots. You can transfer tickets to members of your party that are running late. The process is simple and there are several videos on YouTube if you are nervous.
You can find the link on our school website or go directly to goFan.co.
For unlimited access to live and on-demand content from the NFHS Network, fans can visit NFHSnetwork.com, search for their desired school, and subscribe. There is a Monthly Pass for $10.99 a month which can be canceled at any time. There is also a $69.99-yearly pass that is billed for 12 months at $5.83 monthly.
As always, thank you for taking the time to listen. We are on a mission. The mission is graduation. Don’t forget the mission.

Assistant Principal Jonathan Marina Weekend Update

Good afternoon Largo High Family. This is assistant principal Jonathan Marina. Welcome to another installment of the weekend update.

The City of Largo would like us to remind scholars that there is only one week left for your family to complete the census. This must be done by Wednesday, September 30th, 2020.

All enrolled LHS students can get their flu shot at NO COST! Beginning tomorrow, September 28th, through the end of this school year. Let’s work hard to stop the spread!

If you choose to not send your child to school for more than two days because he or she is sick, please notify the Largo High School Clinic to make them aware of your child’s absences.

There has been an update with our FSA testing dates. All Face to Face 11th graders, not enrolled in a reading class, will be participating in the FSA beginning the 29th. This is a 3-day assessment and for a score to be reported, they must participate all three days. Instructional Leaders will give scholars their session time, either 7:30 AM or 11:00 AM on Monday. Dates for MyPCS 11th graders are Oct 21, 22, 23. More information to come later for seniors. If you have any questions, please email Linda Ray rayli@pcsb.org or Marchelle Janeda janedam@pcsb.org

Our College and Career Center wants you to be aware that the FASFA opens on October 1, 2020.

Scholars, if you still have textbooks from last year, please bring them back to school. Mrs. Wolfe will take them in the media center.

Attention dancers and lovers of dance the National Dance Arts Honor Society will have an information meeting on Thursday, October, 1st via TEAMS where we will discuss all things dance Honor Society-- points, dance teams, performances, and more. Email HicksL@pcsb.org for the link.

If you are interested in signing up for Varsity Boys Soccer please attend the meeting during lunch on Thursday, October 1st in Coach Tallbacka’s room. Building 1 room 222.

Once again PTSA is offering the National PTA Reflections program to our scholars of all grades. Reflections is an arts recognition program with an emphasis on allowing all kids to participate, not just our kids who are really into the arts. Students can participate in photography, filmmaking, dance, literature, musical composition, and visual arts. Last year we had two young ladies advance to the state competition with one earning an award of merit in that round. Scholars wishing to participate or just learn more can email ptsalargohigh@gmail.com for the guidelines.

Seniors - College Application Workshops

 Seniors -

Many of you are well into working on your college apps (or hopefully have at least started thinking about it!) so I wanted to start up College Application Workshops for everyone. These are really useful as they allow a set time with me to help you get through any snags or offer advice. Many students last year were so thankful for this time because it actually forced them to work on their various apps, essays, etc. needed throughout the process.

Mark your calendars for the remaining dates (I would recommend that EVERYONE attend at least 1 workshop but you are welcome to attend all of them!):

Tuesday September 29th
Wednesday September 30th
Monday October 5th

Please meet me in the research center, I will be in there from 1:45 pm - 3:00 pm on the above dates. I will announce additional dates in October in a couple weeks.
