Message from Assistant Principal Jonathan Marina

Good evening Largo High Family. This is assistant principal Jonathan Marina. Welcome to another installment of the weekend update.

Please remember that school starts promptly at 7:25 A.M.

Please be careful during scholar drop off in the morning.  I want to remind you that our parking lot is not for drop off.  It was not designed for this.  Please use the loop in the mornings and look twice, even after your child is safely on the sidewalk.

We are continuing our single point of entry process this year, to ensure the safety of our scholars.  All drop-offs will be at the gates next to the auditorium.  This will be our single point of entry for scholars and will also help with traffic back up, as the auditorium drop off forces all cars to pull forward toward the very end of the car loop.

Please help us by ensuring your child leaves your home in the morning in dress code.

Parking passes are on sale for $5 in the front office.

If you are a myPCS family in need of a computer or books please visit our website and fill out the interactive form there so that we can help you.  Thank you all for your patience and your support.  Kindness doesn’t cost a dollar, not even a penny, and it is priceless. Thank you!

As always, thank you for taking the time to listen. We are on a mission. The mission is graduation. Don’t forget the mission.

Congressman Charlie Crist visits Largo High School

I wanted to share this post with you all. Charlie Crist recognized our GloPo IB students today with an award from the National Archives for their voter registration drive last year to promote youth voter turnout and remove barriers for voter participation. You were so kind and sponsored pizzas for all three days. Your support is a foundation to the success of our students! Thank you so much!

Sincerely,
Liz Ohlemann

Congressman Charlie Crist paid a visit to Largo High School to present students and staff with a display from the National Archives in Washington, DC commemorating the 100th anniversary of the passage of the 19th Amendment to the US Constitution, which ended gender-based voting restrictions in the US.

This visit and presentation commended the students, who started a school-based effort last year to register eligible students to vote, for their work in increasing youth voter turnout and breaking down voting barriers. Students plan to continue efforts this year.

Thank you, Congressman Crist for your recognition of these students. We are so #PCSProud of their leadership and community service 🎉

Message from Assistant Principal Jonathan Marina

Good afternoon Largo High Family. This is assistant principal Jonathan Marina. Welcome to another installment of the weekend update.

Please listen closely, because I am giving you some homework.  Parents, guardians, and scholars that are feeling uneasy about logging onto the myPCS tomorrow morning please watch the 4-minute tutorial at https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=83&v=iJnfNk0uk_I&feature=emb_logo.

Always know that you can go to our school website www.pcsb.org/largo-hs and get updated information as well.  The tutorial link is there as well.  You will still log into Clever and then click on the Canvas link.

Scholars, please bring your laptops to school tomorrow.  Our teachers want to show you all the great things they have designed there as well.

We also made a welcome video for you.  The link is on our website as well. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ge_ZUqw7ats&feature=youtu.be

**Entrance to the campus will be between building 1 and building 4, near the auditorium.  The front office and its gates will remain closed.  Please be sure all scholars are wearing a face mask as this is mandated by PCS.**  We will start off in homerooms and flyers will be posted all over campus as well as within the email version of this message.

That leads me to my second homework assignment for you.  It’s a long term project.  If you have friends and family that have scholars here that don’t get these emails and call outs please have them connect with us.  We do not have any way to get an email or a phone number unless it's given.  As phone numbers and emails change, please update us, even if they change every week.  We want to stay connected to each and every one of you.

Finally, it cost zero dollars to be kind to people.  Not even a penny.  Myself and this staff are living in the same world you are in.  It has been tough.  Please call in kindly.  We have been lifting boxes of books and computers and PPE and working hard.  If something is not in order, I ask for your grace and mercy, just like we give to your children on a daily basis.

As always, thank you for taking the time to listen. We are on a mission. The mission is graduation. Don't forget the mission.

Message from Alec Liem, Assistant Principal, International Baccalaureate Coordinator

                                                                                                                                                                                             August 21, 2020

Greetings, IB Families,

I am reaching out because I am confident that no matter which learning platform you have selected for your child for the start of this school year, you have many questions. We have worked to put our plans in motion to get this year off to a great start for your children!

MyPCS online parents may enroll in the Canvas Parent Course. Please see the links below or on the PCSB webpage.  In parallel with Canvas, we will still be utilizing ManageBac, as your children are familiar with that learning management system. Traditions are an important part of our school, and we will continue these with a twist.  With the unprecedented events of this year, we must adhere to the health and safety guidelines for all our stakeholders. You can start preparing your child for returning to campus by encouraging him/her to practice wearing a mask indoors, talking about the importance of handwashing, and the need for social distancing. We will be spending time discussing these things during our first weeks of school.  Please note that it is important to have a parent username and password to access Focus for information such as your scholar’s schedule and academic progress. If you do not have a username and password please contact our Mrs. Laggner in the IB Office at laggnera@pcsb.org.

We have uploaded a video to assist our freshman with navigating their rotating block schedule. If your scholar is having any difficulty, they can reach out to Mr. Frasier at frasierb@pcsb.org.

We are excited to reconnect with our community next week! We thank you for your support and patience as we fine-tune our work for the 1st quarter of the year.  If you would like to pre-order IB apparel, please click on the link below! The pre-sale shirts are only available to order from now until August 25th.  We won’t have another sale for a few months, so if you would like a shirt or sweatshirt to show your IB spirit, please place your order before then!  They are available in blue, grey or navy.  The shirts will be delivered to school in a few weeks and we will notify you to come pick it up if you are a MyPCS student.

Welcome Letter from Dr Finkbiner

 Good afternoon Packer families

This is Dr. Finkbiner and I want to welcome you to the 2020-2021 school year. Even though the start of this year is certainly unconventional, I am confident in our staff and scholars to continue with our great educational program. We have made a YouTube video to explain our expectations for coming back on campus - - please click on the link located on our website.

A couple of reminders for the first week of school:
On Monday - there will be a homeroom from 7:25-7:35. This will be for on-campus scholars to receive their schedules and move to 1st period. MyPCS scholars may log onto 1st period at 7:35 to begin class. We will work very hard not to disrupt the classes as scheduled. MyPCS scholars can log onto the classes through Clever - then click on Canvas and then Calendar to access their course.

To apply for free/reduced lunch: www.myschoolapps.com The approval is usually a 24-hour turnaround. This will need to be done by Oct. 3rd. If an application is not completed by this date, you will need to make arrangements by sending your child with lunch money or their own lunch.

To set up pre-payments for lunch account: The website is www.myschoolbucks.com. You will need the student ID number. There is a $2.50 transaction fee. You will be able to reload automatically and apply restrictions to the account with those options. We are also accepting cash and checks as well.

Breakfast will be served before school from 7:00 am to 7:25 am, offering a hot entrée and cold choices. There will be passing time between the first 3 periods, which grab & go breakfast will be offered. Breakfast is NO CHARGE.

Lunch will be at the end of the day and will offer a hot or cold entree. Busses will be departing at 2:00 so riders will need to make sure they get their lunches. We will have multiple points of sale so it should not be an issue.

I am excited to begin our year - - I am confident we will meet any challenges we face and come out better and stronger as we do this together.

We will see you in person or on-line Monday
