Message from Assistant Principal Jonathan Marina
Good evening Largo High Family. This is assistant principal Jonathan Marina.
Welcome to another installment of the weekend update.
Please be aware that this is a 3-day school week due to school
starting 2 weeks later than originally planned.
Please remember that school starts promptly at 7:25 A.M. This includes
MyPCS scholars as well.
Please help us by ensuring your child leaves your home in the morning in
dress code and with a mask.
I also want to remind you that we are a closed campus. Scholars that
leave campus during the day pass by several signs that let them know they will
receive two days of ABS, Alternative Bell Schedule, from 1:30 to 6:30 pm.
Please remind your scholars to weigh this out before leaving campus.
On Tuesday our baseball team takes on Palm Harbor here at home. The
game starts at 7 pm.
As always, thank you for taking the time to listen. We are on a mission. The
mission is graduation. Don’t forget the mission.

Letter from Dr Finkbiner Regarding IB Exams
Good morning.
Please see the update that Dr. Finkbiner has received regarding IB exams from Ms. Vigue - - who is the Director of Advanced Studies.
She has been receiving multiple communications from parents and scholars:
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Thank you for sharing your concerns regarding IB Exam administration in Pinellas County Schools. It has undoubtedly been a challenging year and I certainly understand your frustration and angst regarding the upcoming exams. However, to clarify, Pinellas County Schools did not have the option to choose whether to continue with exams or cancel them. The International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO) made that determination for every district. Our district was informed by the IBO Regional World School Manager that all schools in Pinellas County have been designated to administer the IB exams for the May 2021 session. The IBO has also informed us that they have adjusted some exams this year to account for the disruption in learning caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
We are doing our best to ensure that our students' and staff's safety and well-being are considered in this undertaking, including staggering the exam times to provide for smaller groupings, sanitizing the exam room between use, and holding many of the exams off-site to prohibit the need to co mingle with the rest of the student body. Your IB Coordinator also shared the FAQs IBO shared with us in a letter he/she sent to families recently, as I am sure you are aware I have attached those FAQ’s in the chance that you may have missed it.
I know this is not the response you are hoping to hear, but I do want you to know that we value your feedback, will share it with IBO, and we sincerely care about your well-being. I am confident your IB Coordinator would welcome meeting with you to address your specific concerns to the greatest extent possible and to answer any questions you may have.
Respectfully,
Judith Vigue
Director, Advanced Studies & Academic Excellence
Pinellas County Schools
There is a meeting on April 6th with all seniors to go over the exam procedures. Ms. Wolfe will be leading the meeting, and Mr. Liem will check in virtually as well.
We will do our very best to answer as many questions and concerns as we can.
Thank you
Dr. Finkbiner

Letter from Assistant Principal Alec Liem
Greetings
Largo IB Scholars and Parents,
It has been an incredible honor and
privilege to serve the Largo High School community and IB families for the last
six years. As some of you may know, I have recently been appointed as the
Principal of Largo Middle School, effective March 24th. Although
I will miss my work and school family tremendously, I am looking forward to the
challenges that my new position has to offer.
Our IB program has grown immensely as
our staff continues to work diligently to support your children. When I
reflect back on my time at Largo High School, so many fond memories come to
mind. Interacting and watching our scholars grow academically, socially,
athletically and artistically has been an experience that I will forever
cherish. Collectively, we have built the Largo High School IB
programme from just over 100 IB scholars to a prominent program of over 350
scholars. Our programme is on a terrific trajectory, and I am confident that
the Largo High School IB programme will continue to grow and prosper.
I would like to thank you for the
opportunity to serve you, your children, and this outstanding school community
and sincerely hope you know how proud I am of our scholars. I look
forward to hearing great things about their accomplishments as they continue
their education at Largo High School as well as any of their post-secondary
endeavors. I know that Dr. Finkbiner, in parallel with the Office
of Advanced Studies and Academic Excellence, will work diligently to find a candidate
to continue the work that we are doing.
Please know that I am a phone call or
email away if you have any questions or if I can assist you as it relates
to the well-being of your scholar! I am extremely excited to take on
this new role, but my Largo High School family will always hold a special place
in my heart. Thank you for all your support during my time at Largo High
School. It’s been a true pleasure to partner with you in your child’s
education.
Sincerely,
Alec Liem

Sophomore Opportunity: Ryan Nece Foundation
We have had many students participate in this program in the past and so many have loved the opportunities it can provide!
The 2021 program application is currently open for all high school sophomores. The goal of the Student Service Program is to help shape and mentor the next generation of servant leaders in our community. Through the program’s leadership curriculum and service projects, it is our hope to ignite a spark in the students so they experience a renewed sense of purpose that will reflect in the service work they continue throughout Tampa Bay and beyond.
The students selected for the program embark upon a two-year journey with the foundation that will lay the groundwork for the rest of their future. Each year in the Spring, the foundation selects a new group of Bay Area high school sophomores to be part of the program. Through their junior year, the students will participate in: monthly meetings; community service projects, fundraising, and an annual service trip.
As seniors, the students remain actively involved in the program by mentoring the next group of students in the program and continuing to volunteer with the foundation throughout the year.
Students are selected for the program through an application process. Following the application deadline, a panel of judges reviews the applications and selects the students for the program based on evidence of genuine interest in the areas of community service and civic engagement, academic achievements, and more.
