FAFSA: Fill it out!
Good morning.
Attached you will find a flyer for the upcoming virtual FAFSA Completion Events that will be offered in conjunction with SPC. Additionally, here is a direct link to the sign up (also listed on the flyer): https://web.spcollege.edu/
To attend, students will need to register so that they can be emailed a link to the event. There isn’t a deadline to register; however, it is possible that the events will fill up so I would encourage them to sign up early.
I am going to add this information to our FAFSA & Financial Aid pages as well as request that it be added to the banner on the PCSB main page. I will also add it to Peach Jar. I am checking with Strategic Communications to find out additional ways to promote such as School Messenger but I haven’t heard back. I will keep you posted but encourage you to get the word out to your seniors.
Thanks,
Brooke Pair

No School Monday for Students
Friendly Reminder: No school for scholars tomorrow. Tuesday we begin our new quarter continuing our face-2-face and MyPCS learning and also welcoming some scholars back into the classroom. No matter which style of learning is best for you and your family, IB Partners will continue to support you in every way we can.
Assistant Principal Jonathan Marina weekend update
Good afternoon Largo High Family. This is assistant principal Jonathan
Marina. Welcome to another installment of the weekend update.
Tomorrow, Monday, October 26th, 2020 is NOT a school day for our scholars.
Please keep them home.
We wrap up PSAT on October 29th with our current face to face 9th graders.
Those of you just moving back to face to face should be on the lookout
for a Freshman makeup day in January.
All enrolled LHS scholars can get their flu shot at NO COST! The email
version of this message has consent forms in it. Let’s work hard to stop
the spread! If you choose to not send your child to school for more than
two days because he or she is sick, please notify the Largo High School Clinic
to make them aware of your child’s absences.
Please support the Referendum. It funds strengthening reading, music and art
programs; provides current technology and textbooks; and helps recruit and retain
quality teachers. Pinellas County voters have renewed the Referendum every four
years, by large margins, since the half-mill property tax was approved in 2004.
Every penny collected through the Referendum is locally controlled and supports
Pinellas County teachers and scholars.
Please join our award-winning PTSA. There are two ways to join: online at https://largohigh.new.memberhub.store/store
or fill out the attached form and send it into the front office or mail it in.
Our afterschool program, RISE, runs Mondays - Thursdays, from 2:00 - 3:30
each day. At 3:30, all scholars in attendance are eligible to stop by the
café and pick up a free to-go dinner.
On Wednesday, October 28, 2020, our JV football team travels to Boca Ciega. The game starts at 6:30. The Friday night lights will shine at Lakewood high
as our Varsity football plays at 7 pm.
As always, thank you for taking the time to listen. We are on a mission. The
mission is graduation. Don’t forget the mission.

Changes in Learning Options for Next Quarter
Good afternoon Packer families
This is Dr. Finkbiner with an update for those families who chose a
different learning option for 2nd quarter. Our school counselors have gone
through the list and all families who chose to change during the time frame the
district set aside have been approved. These changes will officially begin next
Tuesday, October 27th. You will be able to access your schedule next Monday
through your FOCUS account. If the change is not there, you can see your school
counselor on Tuesday.
For those families who made a change selection after the district dates, we
will attempt to accommodate those as well as quickly as we can. This will be
done in order of the date a learning option change was requested.
We appreciate your patience with us as we work through this process.
Partners Letter
October 1st, 2020
Dear IB Families:
The mission of the
Largo IB Partners organization is to provide support to the Largo International
Baccalaureate scholars, their families, and the Largo High School staff. This
year is not what any of us expected it to be, and we understand that each family
is adjusting to the pandemic differently. As an organization, we are also
adjusting to the new way of doing business and being involved in our
school. So far this school year, Largo
IB Partners has been able to provide each teacher with a one-hundred-dollar
classroom grant, stock the teacher’s
pantry, purchase microphones to enhance classroom and online learning, deliver
morale-boosting gifts assembled by volunteers and provide supplemental
cleaning supplies. Communication to our scholars and families is very important
to us. Our social media committee is
continually hard at work maintaining and keeping our families up to date
through remind, social media, and our blog. We are also supporting the school
and the administration in any way that we can to help ensure a positive
learning environment for our scholars.
This year, our Partners
drive will emphasize the theme of support and kindness. Our suggested activity
fee is $25 per year for each scholar, but we know this year families have been
affected by the pandemic in many different ways. You are all a part of our
Largo IB Partners family whether you are able to contribute financially this
year or not. This year, your contribution may be smaller, or it may be larger,
it may be by giving your time, or by offering a word of support, but as a
group, we will continue to be of service to each and every scholar, teacher,
administrator. Our goal is to make sure no scholar goes without basic needs, no
classroom goes unstocked, and that the milestone events enjoyed in past years
become something we can continue as guidelines change. We would like to budget
for more items for the teachers and scholars, such as additional laptops much
needed this year based on our collected activity fees. However, we do understand our year will look
a little different. If you are able, activity fees and contributions can be
paid at this time. Payments can be made
via Check, Credit Card by checking out through Square or PayPal.

Thank you to those who
have donated your time and who have offered financial support in the past. This
year, if you are able to support IB Partners financially, that is welcomed, but
just as welcomed and needed is your kind note to the teacher or counselor who
went the extra mile for your scholar, or the small gift you send in to thank
the maintenance staff for their tireless work keeping our school sanitized. As
Mr. Marina says every week, kindness doesn’t cost a dollar, not even a penny,
and it is priceless! Thank you for considering continued support this school
year. Most of all, thank you for allowing us to be part of your scholar's
journey through the IB Program.
Sincerely,
Largo IB Partners

General Meeting Tonight
Hello!
Care & Culture CAS Project
Hi IB peeps! This is Joy Chen and Rachel Maliwat. For our CAS project, we are creating a care/culture package for the Japanese students at our sister school Kami High and we need your help. We are planning to create a scrapbook and we were hoping that you could send us your photos of Largo or just Florida in general, and also please message us with the location of the photo so we can caption it. We hope we can share the beauty of Largo through these photos! We are not picky and there no requirements but please send in scenic photos and not selfies
CAS Project for IB Cookbook
Hi IB Parents,
My name is Suwannee Conroy-Baarsch and I am an IB junior at Largo. I am contacting the IB parents for help with my CAS Project. My project is an IB Cookbook made up of recipes from different cultures and backgrounds that are contributed by the IB community, including you! Once I have sorted through the recipes and created the book, it will be sold and proceeds will go to the Daystar Life Center (You can find information about them here: https://daystarlife.com/word/)
I'd love for the cookbook to be more than just a collection of instructions and more of a look into the IB community through its cultural diversity. In order for this to happen, I'll need your help. If you are able to, I would greatly appreciate it if you would contribute a recipe to the book. I am not picky about what recipe you send, anything works! I encourage those who send a recipe to include a little history or a photo or even a happy or funny memory that you associate with the dish but don't feel required to.
If you can contribute a recipe, send them through email to ibcookbook2020@gmail.com by November 1st.
Thank you for your help!

History Bowl
The Largo High History Bowl
teams need your support!
To participate in History Bowl Competitions we need money for our entry
fees. Normally we would raise funds through reading questions and selling
concessions at the Middle School competition and selling t-shirts and
concessions at the Pinellas County History Day competition. Due to
Covid-19 those events will be virtual this year and unavailable for
fundraising. Since our normal fundraising opportunities are not available,
we need your help!
There are three qualifying leagues each year, one starting in October, the
second in January and the third in February. The registration fee is $100
per team and at a minimum we need to register a Varsity and a JV team for each
league. It would be great to enter even more teams if we can. We
also qualified last year for the National Competition which will be additional
fees (TBA)
Right now the minimum needed is $600. That would give us 2 teams per
League for all 3 Leagues. Any additional funds would go towards the
National Competition and entering more teams if possible.
The Largo High History Bowl Team greatly appreciates your support!
UPDATE - our team has grown!! This means we could now field 3 teams for
the competition - If we can raise enough for the extra entry fees! This would
make it $900 for the 3 qualifying leagues. In December the Nationals for
2020-2021 will take place virtually - we don't know the fees for that
yet. In April will be the Nationals for this school year, no one is
sure yet whether those will be virtual, or in-person in Washington, D.C.
Costs will be updated as we get more information.
Thank you to everyone who has already shown their support!
