Collection Day 5/27-5/28

Starting Wednesday, May 27, 2020, the Largo High will be collecting items that must be returned to the school. Please see the schedule below for your date and time of collection for any Largo High School items, such as textbooks and library books.  *If an electronic device, charger, or other tech instrument was distributed to you from the school and you will be returning for next school year, please keep these items through the summer.

If you will be leaving Pinellas County Schools, please plan to return the item during your assigned collection time. These collection times will also serve to distribute any items a scholar stored in their locker.  Please use the chart below to determine your date and time to return your school items.

All vehicles will enter Largo High School’s front entrance at the light and travel through our drop off circle. This is our ONE OPPORTUNITY to collect these important items, so please make plans now to be at Largo High School for your appointment, based upon the schedule and guidelines below:
We will be attempting to collect items with no physical contact, please prepare the following:
1.    Your name on a paper to post in your car window to identify the scholar returning materials.
2.    On paper, please list the items you are returning.  Put your name and scholar number on the paper.  Place the paper IN the top book.
3.    Put your items in your trunk or back of the vehicle.  Pop trunk when you arrive for our plant operators to collect the items.
4.    *If you had a locker and need to collect your belongings, please write “LOCKER” with the locker number next to your name in your car window.  We will bring your locker items to your car.

Senior Families - message from Ms Wolfe about Final Transcripts

Final Transcripts

·       Final Transcripts (for your high school coursework) will be available as of Monday June 1st. You may have heard information about requesting transcripts on the all calls that Mr. Marina puts out every Sunday, however I am asking that you go through me instead to ensure your transcript is sent!

o   Anyone who indicated they will be attending college in-state on your senior survey - I will be sending your transcript for you directly to the University via FASTER/SPEEDE.

o   Those that are attending out of state - I need you to email me how you would like the transcript to be sent electronically (for example, Common App, Coalition, Send EDU, etc.). While most schools do not accept an official transcript via email, there are some that do - if you are having trouble figuring out a way to send it because maybe you applied by the institution application and they do accept transcripts via email, please send me the email that you would like for me to send it to.

·       Your IB Diploma Transcript is a SEPARATE TRANSCRIPT that will be sent directly to the University you indicated you would be attending in your senior survey. The results will be available to view by the student Monday July 6th and can be accessed with your unique IB Pin Code (More information about this to come from Mr. Liem). Your University usually receives this transcript early-mid August, around the same time you are signing up for classes. My advice to you on this is to be proactive with this piece; call your admissions office and check to see if they have received it and ask how you can schedule a time to meet with a counselor to review the credits you earned through your IB diploma results (and don't forget to ask about AP exam credit if that applies to you as well). Some schools are better than others on this so it's important to speak up. You do not want to be stuck in a prereq that you should have received credit for - that will be a waste of everyone's time and money!

·       Check your personal email - I sent individual emails to students that have not completed thier Bright Futures application (FFAA). This is VERY important, as you MUST complete this application before the end of summer to be eligible. If you are unsure if you submitted it or not, shoot me an email (wolfecai@pcsb.org) - I'm happy to go in and check for you! :)

Thanks for getting through this lengthy message :)  Please continue to send me questions or concerns you may have as you begin this transition. I am so proud of all of you and am so excited on what you are about to embark on in this next phase of life! You guys have worked so hard to get to this point and it is truly something to look forward to!

Be the Light Class of 2020 Celebration

Leadership/Service Opportunity for Current Sophomores

Leadership/Service Opportunity for Current Sophomores

The Power of Giving is about helping every man, woman, and child realize their potential to better the world in which they live, work, and play. By sharing of time, treasures, or talents every person has the opportunity to make a positive impact on the world. The Power of Giving Student Service Program is a direct reflection of Ryan Nece Foundation’s mission to create opportunities for teens to embrace the Power of Giving through volunteerism and inspirational leadership programs.

The goal of the Student Service Program is to help shape and mentor the next generation of servant leaders in our community. Through the program’s leadership curriculum and service projects, it is our hope to ignite a spark in the students so they experience a renewed sense of purpose that will reflect in the service work they continue throughout Tampa Bay and beyond.

The students selected for the program embark upon a two-year journey with the foundation that will lay the foundation for the rest of their future. Each year in the Spring, the foundation selects a new group of Bay Area high school sophomores to be part of the program. Through their junior year, the students will participate in:

  • Monthly Meetings:  Students hear from speakers regarding nonprofit management, business and leadership skills, civic involvement, etc.
  • Community Service Projects:  Students in the program volunteer at RNF events and with many other Bay Area nonprofit partners throughout the year.
  • Fundraising:  The students use the skills they’ve learned throughout the curriculum to raise some of the funds needed to cover the cost of the service trip.
  • Annual Service Trip:  In the summer following their junior year, the students participate in an end of the year service trip where they travel to a community in crisis to assist with local needs. In the past, the foundation has taken students to complete projects in the Dominican Republic, Flint and Detroit, MI, and New Orleans, LA.

Interested students should complete the application via the link below.  The application deadline is May 31, 2020

Virtual Visit: Johns Hopkins, Notre Dame, Wash U, and Emory

Hero Image

Largo Hs

Join us for a virtual group presentation.

We hope you and your family are well and safe. Thank you for all you are doing to serve your schools and communities during what we know has been a difficult and stressful semester for so many.

Our consortium group originally planned to visit your region this spring and host group presentations. While our ability to be physically with you has changed, we have worked diligently to provide a virtual group presentation instead. We hope these provide opportunities for your students to learn more about us as they embark on their college search journey!

Virtual Format
Because this is a new format for our consortium group, here are a few notes:

  • All the events will be live, not prerecorded.
  • While we are offering six sessions, each one will cover similar content. Students are encouraged to attend only one session, allowing space for as many viewers as possible.
  • Due to large crowds anticipated, we will not be taking live questions. Students can submit questions ahead of time on their registration form, and our representatives will do their best to cover them through the session content.

Virtual Event Dates
Thank you for sharing about these virtual events with your school community. Click on "RSVP" to register for these virtual events.

If you are sharing this invitation with other counselor colleagues, (which we appreciate so much!), please limit it to colleagues in your city or county. This prevents the virtual events from getting so large that we experience technical issues with our platform.

We look forward to sharing with you and your students as we navigate this new spring format.

FBLA State Competition Results

So after our FBLA State Conference was cancelled in Orlando back in March they decided to hold the State Competitions anyway and just moved them online. Last week the members of FBLA took online tests and uploaded speeches as they competed against others around the state. Last night was the virtual awards ceremony and our members took home 4 awards!

Please help me in congratulating the 4 following FBLA members on their achievements:
Jonathan Lee placed 3rd in state for Public Speaking
Bryn Muller placed 4th in state for Impromptu Speaking

Superintendent Update May 1, 2020

Pinellas County Schools Families,

Please watch the video message linked below, from Pinellas County Schools Superintendent Dr. Michael Grego.

https://youtu.be/1OCzusOpiZ8

The contents of the video message and more information, including a Teacher Appreciation link, information about graduation ceremonies for the Class of 2020, and a Spanish translation are available below for your convenience.

Pinellas County Schools Families,

As we close out our fifth week of digital learning, I want to continue to express my gratitude and appreciation for the support you continue to provide your students. My hope is that the last four weeks of the 2019-20 school year is filled with lessons and experiences that are creative, innovative and unlock the curiosity and love of learning within every student.

As a district we have a number of celebrations coming in the next weeks. And we continue to plan ways to honor the accomplishments of students and staff virtually.

Today is National Decision Day. The day when our seniors announce their plans for after high school graduation. We will be sharing the stories of our seniors over the next upcoming weeks through our social media platforms and website.

I want to thank the over 7,000 students and family members who participated in the graduation survey. We will hold in-person graduation ceremonies later in the summer, if health and safety regulations allow. We will also continue to plan for a virtual ceremony which incorporates all portions of a traditional graduation ceremony to ensure that if we are unable to hold an in-person ceremony, each graduate still has a celebration to honor their accomplishments. As I previously communicated, the best-case scenario is that all our planning for a virtual ceremony is not needed and that we turn the content for a virtual ceremony into a video keepsake for each graduate and their families. I ask each graduate to engage in the virtual planning as it will create a memory for your entire graduating class.

Next week is also Teacher Appreciation Week (May 4-8, 2020). Now more than ever our community…our society truly knows and recognizes the impact of great teachers. Our teachers are much more than ‘essential’… they continue to go above and beyond on a daily basis without seeking acknowledgment or award. I hope you will join me this week in expressing our unending gratitude for the continued devotion and enthusiasm our teachers demonstrate for your students. Please take a few moments and submit a teacher ‘shout-out’ here: https://survey.k12insight.com/r/Teacher2020.

While digital learning does not replace the relationships or experiences within our classrooms our teachers and everyone within Pinellas County Schools are here to support you and your student as their learning continues.

As a reminder, all information and resources are available on the district website which is updated on a regular basis at www.pcsb.org/coronavirus including specific pages for:
Digital learning resources for students and families, including frequently asked questions and updated how-to tutorials are available on our dedicated webpage for Digital Learning for Students and Families. Additional information regarding grading, testing, promotion/retention and summer bridge programming will be updated soon!
Meal distribution will continue to distribute free meals throughout the closure at 22 school sites. Distribution information is available at www.pcsb.org/foodlocations. If you are not able to go to one of the school sites, other local food providers throughout the county are offering free, nutritious meals for our students. A complete list of sites throughout our community can be found at the Pinellas County government website.

I also want all families to know that over the last two weeks, the district has convened a cross-functional planning team that includes medical professionals with expertise in infectious disease. We are doing this to ensure that as we plan for Summer 2020 and the 2020-21 school year we are guided by health professionals and grounded in best practices for safety, health and well-being. We will continue to share updates and planning for Summer 2020 and the 2020-21 school year in the upcoming weeks.

Pinellas County Schools remains committed to providing a high-quality education to our students. I am grateful for your continued support of our students, staff and community through during this time of digital learning. We are better together!

Sincerely,
Michael A. Grego, Ed.D.
Superintendent Pinellas County Schools
