Assistant Principal Jonathan Marina with PSAT Info

Good afternoon Largo family. This is assistant principal Jonathan Marina with a PSAT update.

On Wednesday, October 14th, 2020, our face-to-face 10th graders and 11th graders will take the PSAT/NMSQT, a test of the skills and knowledge essential for college and career that scholars are learning in class.

The PSAT/NMSQT is an important step in your child’s journey to college or a strong career path. The test offers scholars the opportunity to connect with colleges and universities, enter scholarship competitions, get ready for the SAT, and sharpen their skills with free practice on SATpractice.org through Khan Academy, and learn what AP classes might make the most of their strengths.

The test takes approximately two hours and 45minutes plus ten minutes for breaks and up to 40 minutes for registration activities. Scholars should bring regular non-mechanical number 2 pencils with them and a calculator that is not also a cellphone. 11th-grade MyPCS scholars should arrive at the school no later than 7:25 Wednesday morning.

We appreciate your support in discussing the PSAT with your child to emphasize how valuable the experience can be. Have a great evening.
As always, thank you for listening. We are on a mission. The mission is graduation. Don’t forget the mission.

Greetings from the Admissions Office at Florida State University!

Greetings from the Admissions Office at Florida State University!

We hope you are staying safe and healthy. We know this is a challenging time for you and your students as you help them navigate the admissions application process during a pandemic. Zoom fatigue is real and we want to be respectful of your time. However, if you have any questions and want to connect with us in real-time, we offer small virtual group discussions weekly through early December. To register for one or more of these discussion groups, click here.

We included a few helpful Florida State University’s websites to share with your students and their family members:

·     Apply to FSU: admissions.fsu.edu/first-year/apply. Please note that application fee waivers are available inside all the applications and are automatically processed.

·     Deadlines: admissions.fsu.edu/first-year/deadlines. Please note that the priority deadline was moved to December 1.

·     Helpful videos on how to create the self-reported student academic record (SSAR) can be found at admissions.fsu.edu/first-year/SSAR/.

·     Virtual events including information sessions, virtual tours, etc. are available at visit.fsu.edu.

Finally, the Deans/Directors of Admission at the 12 Florida public universities will host a panel discussion on October 15 at 7:00 pm EST. Go to webcast.fiu.edu to join the event, “The State University System: Your College Adventure Awaits”. Please be sure to share the attached invitation with your students and their family members. We also attached this year’s updated SUS matrix which includes helpful information on all the 12 Florida public universities.

We are grateful for your support and look forward to connecting with you when you are ready.

Warm regards,

Hege Ferguson

Colleges at UCF Open House

This is a great opportunity for students that have questions about specific degrees at UCF.

Good Afternoon!

Are your students looking for degree-specific information?

A series of colleges here at UCF are hosting an open house event for students to learn about different majors, degree requirements, limited/restricted access programs, internships, career prep, and more.

The event is open to any prospect, regardless of interest or student type.  Each college will offer one webinar, and students can attend as many different sessions as they wish.

I wanted to reach out to the students at Largo Senior High School to invite them to attend and have their questions answered. Students can follow the link below to register:

Algorithms for College Admissions: What to Know

If college admissions are on your mind, here is a great article that talks about how "econometric modeling,” "demonstrated interest" and "social media presence" may all impact acceptance. https://www.usnews.com/education/best-colleges/articles/how-admissions-algorithms-could-affect-your-college-acceptance?src=usn_college_extrahelp

Message from Assistant Principal Jonathan Marina

Good afternoon Largo High Family. This is assistant principal Jonathan Marina. Welcome to another installment of the weekend update.
All enrolled LHS students can get their flu shot at NO COST! Let’s work hard to stop the spread!
If you choose to not send your child to school for more than two days because he or she is sick, please notify the Largo High School Clinic to make them aware of your child’s absences.
Our College and Career Center wants you to be aware that the FASFA has opened. Please see the attached flyer.
We have several drives taking place. Flyers are attached.
Scholars, if you still have textbooks from last year, please bring them back to school. Mrs. Wolfe will take them in the media center.
PTSA is offering the National PTA Reflections program to our scholars of all grades. Reflections is an arts recognition program that allows everyone to participate, not just our kids who are really into the arts. Scholars wishing to participate or just learn more can email ptsalargohigh@gmail.com.
This year for our athletic games will no longer be selling paper tickets. You will only be able to buy your tickets online. Tickets will not be sold at the gate. Our limit has been raised from 25% to 35% of our normal capacity.
We have our home Volleyball contest this week against Eastlake on Monday, October 5th, 2020 at 6:30 pm. and way on Thursday at Osceola. Tuesday is a special day of swimming and diving at the Seminole pool with Senior night. I invite our Swimming and Diving parents to come that night as my guest. Thank you for all that you do for our program. JV Football is away at Clearwater on Wednesday.
For unlimited access to live and on-demand content from the NFHS Network, fans can visit NFHSnetwork.com, search for their desired school, and subscribe. There is a Monthly Pass for $10.99 a month which can be canceled at any time.
Our afterschool support program, RISE, has begun. This is a great opportunity to support face to face and MyPCS scholars by providing a learning environment to complete work with the help of our instructional leaders and peer tutors. We also have APEX credit recovery opportunities for our scholars. Our program will run Mondays - Thursdays, from 2:00 - 3:30 each day. At 3:30, all scholars in attendance are eligible to stop by the cafe' and pick up a dinner to go for FREE.
Kindness doesn’t cost a dollar, not even a penny, and it is priceless.
As always, thank you for taking the time to listen. We are on a mission. The mission is graduation. Don’t forget the mission.
