IB TALENTED ROCKS

The IB Talented talent show was a HUGE success with twenty acts from the various IB classes. The booster organization raised $467 and everyone agreed it was a fun night for both the performers and the audience. Photos from the evening can be found in our Photo Page on the right hand side.

  1. SENIORS - Please remember to fill out your FAFSA application. You can do this here. Also, don't forget to fill out a Florida Financial Aid Application. It is required for Bright Futures. Click HEREfor more information.
  2. Kaplan Test Prep is once again holding a practice SAT/ACT test for students interested in getting a head start on these tests. The next session is Saturday, April 4th at the Largo Library from 10:30 am to 2:15 pm. Space is limited. Click here to register.
  3. The IB Talent Show will be the third week in March. The exact date will be posted here soon!
  4. Thank you to everyone who ordered IB shirts and sweatshirts last week. The order will go in this week and should be back within 14 days. We will distribute them to the teachers and student representatives to hand out.
  5. A HUGE thank you to CVT Surgical Specialists for their donation to the IB Booster Organization. Because we still do not have 100% family participation in our organization we appreciate all donations! Our members and our donors are the ones that keep us moving!

IB Booster T'shirt Sale

Representatives from the IB Booster Organization will be at the school on February 19th during lunch to take orders for T'shirts and Sweatshirts. This is a fundraiser for the Senior Celebration and the End of the Year Picnic.

If you don't have apparel that represents the IB program, now is the time to pick something up! Shirts are $15 and Sweatshirts are $25. Checks and Cash only.

  • Bank of America is looking for the next generation of community leaders. If you are a junior or senior in high school with a passion for improving your community, we want to support you. 
    As a Student Leader, you will participate in an eight-week paid internship at a local nonprofit organization where you will learn first-hand about the needs of your community and the critical role nonprofits play. In addition, you will learn valuable civic, social and business leadership skills. Each Student Leader will attend the Student Leaders Summit held in Washington, D.C. where you will learn how government, business and the nonprofit sector work together to address critical community needs.   • Yale Young Global Scholars Program - The Yale Young Global Scholars Program is a two-week academic enrichment and leadership training program for talented high school students from around the world, who live and study on the Yale campus during the summer. Students currently in 10th or 11th grade are eligible to apply.
  • Largo Proctor Volunteer Training - Largo's first IB senior class will be taking exams the entire month of May. We will need volunteers to help with proctoring the exams. All volunteers will need to complete an hour training session. There are two dates available to do this: March 3rd from 10:30 am - 11:30 am. or March 10th from 7:30 pm - 8:30 pm. Kaplan Test Prep for ACT

Kaplan is sponsoring a free ACT practice test at the Largo Library on January 10, 2015. This is a great opportunity for our students to learn what to expect when they sit for the ACT as juniors and seniors. The students will get a complete analysis of their results and learn exclusive strategies to improve their score. Many of our students took advantage of Kaplan's free SAT practice test this past month.

Seats are limited. To sign up please click here.  Students should bring two number 2 pencils and a calculator. Parents and students will receive test results via email within two weeks of taking the test.

Important Dates - November/December 2014

November 1 - January 31st - Bank of America Charitable Foundation Leaders Program Application Period - Since its inception in 2005, the Bank of America Student Leaders Program has recognized more than 2,000 exemplary high school juniors and seniors who have a passion for improving their communities. There are two ways to be involved: 

  • A summer eight-week paid internship with a nonprofit organization selected by the bank. This internship is designed to provide opportunities for the students to develop and apply leadership skills through hands-on work experience, while raising their awareness of community issues addressed by their Host Organization. 
  • A week-long, all-expense paid Student Leaders Summit in Washington, D.C. from July 12-17, 2015. Conducted in partnership with the Close Up Foundation, the Summit introduces students to aspects of civic, social and business leadership and provides them with knowledge and skills they will use throughout their life to create positive community change.  Learn more here

November 13, 2014 - South County Information Fair - 6:00 - 8:00 pm. - Gibbs High School - Parents and students will have an opportunity to speak with representatives from all schools regarding application programs.

November 15, 2014 - Pinellas County Information Day - 9:00 am. - 12:00 pm. - Pinellas Park High School - Parents and students will have an opportunity to speak with representatives from all schools regarding application programs. Largo High IB Boosters will have students and parents on hand to answer questions.

November 19, 2014 - Great American Teach-in Day - If anyone is interested in participating within the IB program, please contact Mr. Lane at lanea@pcsb.org.

November 19, 2014 - Yale 's Young Global Scholars Program Webinar- 7:00 am./1:00 pm./7:00 pm. Learn about this program through a live information session. Space is limited. Register Here

December 4, 2014 - Discover Night - 6:00 - 8:00 pm. - Largo High School Cafeteria - This is a night for 8th grade parents and students to learn about Largo's International Baccalaureate Program. The evening will include a welcome and then a ten minute session in each classroom with teachers. IB Boosters will have students and parents on hand to answer questions.

December 9, 2014 - IB Booster General Meeting - 6:30 - 7:30 pm. - Largo High School Cafeteria The general meeting of the IB membership is open to all parents and students in the Honors Option and IB program. There will be an Open Forum at the end of the meeting to ask questions.

  • October 4, 2014 - College Interview Bootcamp - 10:00 am - 12:00 pm - Courtyard Tampa Airport/Westshore - 3805 W. Cypress Street, Tampa - Bob LeVine, former chairman of the Harvard Schools Committee for Tampa Bay, will be conducting a bootcamp on how to master the interview process for college admission.   • October 6, 2014 - North Pinellas County College & Career Fair - 6 pm. at Countryside High School 
  • October 7, 2014 - Pinellas County Financial Aid Seminar - 6:30 - 8:00 pm. at Pinellas Park High School - This workshop for Largo High School and Pinellas Park High School students and parents will educate on topics pertaining to the next step toward college. Topics include Bright Futures, Government Grants and Loans, Financial Aid, and Scholarships.
  • October 9th - IB Pinning Ceremony - Crossroads Christian Church - This ceremony is for those juniors who have committed to entering the IB program.
  • October 14th - Duke University Admission Seminar - 7:00 pm - Tampa Marriott Westshore - Register at here.
  • October 23 - 31 - The University of West Florida Honors College is offering The Pace Honors Scholarship that will cover tuition, dorm expenses and extra funding for off campus educational experiences. To qualify, please see Ms. Mitchell.
